What you should know
Surviving spouses and registered partners may be entitled to a widow's or widower's pension. The amount depends on the income of both partners and is a percentage of the deceased person's pension.
If the application is made within six months of the date of death, the pension is paid from the date of death. If you apply later, it is only paid from the date of application – which is why acting quickly is important.

The documents you need
Please bring the following documents, if you have them. If something is missing, we will find a solution together.
- Death certificate
- Marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate
- Photo ID and social security number
- Proof of income (own pension, salary)
- Bank details (IBAN)

By when must the widow's pension be applied for?
For the pension to be paid retrospectively from the date of death, the application should be made within six months.
How much is the widow's pension?
Depending on the partners' income, it amounts to between 0 and 60 per cent of the deceased person's pension. The exact calculation is done by the PVA.
