What you should know
In Austria, your pension is not paid automatically – you have to apply for it. The pension starts at the earliest on the first day of the month after you apply. If you apply too late, you may therefore lose money.
The standard retirement age for men is 65. For women, it has been raised gradually from 60 to 65 since 2024. In addition, you must have enough months of insurance.

The documents you need
Please bring the following documents, if you have them. If something is missing, we will find a solution together.
- Photo ID and social security number
- Account statement or pension account notification (Pensionskontomitteilung)
- The children's birth certificates (for child-raising periods)
- Proof of school, university and periods abroad
- Marriage or divorce certificate (if applicable)
- Bank details (IBAN)
Good to know
- Ideally, submit your application about three months before your planned retirement date.
- Periods abroad in EU countries count too – but they must be stated in the application.

We help with filling in the applications. Whether the requirements are met is decided by the PVA – for legal questions, we refer you to the Arbeiterkammer (Chamber of Labour) or the PVA advice service.
