What you should know

For treatment by private doctors (Wahlärztinnen and Wahlärzte), the health insurer usually reimburses 80% of the amount it would have paid a contracted doctor (Vertragsarzt). Similar rules apply to therapies, medical aids and appliances.

You can submit online via meineSV or your health insurer's app, or by post. If information is missing from the invoice, reimbursement is delayed.

Frequently asked questions about Cost reimbursement

How much do I get back for a private doctor?

Usually 80% of the health insurance tariff – not 80% of the bill. How much that is in euros depends on the service.

Can I submit bills online?

Yes, for example via meineSV with ID Austria. We show you how it works, or help you submit by post.

What if the insurer refuses reimbursement?

We look at the letter together and explain it. For legal steps, we refer you to the Arbeiterkammer (Chamber of Labour) or a legal advice service.

We provide practical support with filling in and submitting forms based on the information you give us. We do not provide legal or tax advice and cannot guarantee approval – the decision is made by the responsible authority.
