What you should know
Self-employed people are generally insured with the SVS for health, pension and accident insurance. Small business owners with low turnover and income can, under certain conditions, apply to be exempted from health and pension insurance.
Accident insurance remains in place. Whether the exemption makes sense depends on your personal situation – for example on whether you are insured elsewhere.
How we help you
- Filling in the application for exemption from compulsory insurance
- Registration and notifications to the SVS
- Applications to reduce or defer contributions
- Clear explanations of SVS letters
- Setting up meineSV with ID Austria
The documents you need
Please bring the following documents, if you have them. If something is missing, we will find a solution together.
- Trade licence (Gewerbeschein) or proof of your activity
- Turnover and income forecast or income tax assessment notice
- SVS insurance number and previous letters
- Proof of other health insurance (if any)
Good to know
- Before applying for the exemption, check whether you otherwise have sufficient health insurance.
- If you exceed the limits, the exemption ends – report changes in good time.

Frequently asked questions about SVS applications
Who can apply for exemption from compulsory insurance?
Small business owners whose turnover and income are below certain limits and who meet further requirements. The SVS publishes the current limits every year.
Am I no longer insured at all after the exemption?
Accident insurance remains in place. Health and pension insurance no longer apply – which is why you should clarify your cover beforehand.
Do you also give tax advice?
No, we help with filling in and submitting forms. Tax advice is provided by tax advisers or the Wirtschaftskammer (Chamber of Commerce).
We provide practical support with filling in and submitting forms based on the information you give us. We do not provide legal or tax advice and cannot guarantee approval – the decision is made by the responsible authority.
